Well, it’s finally here! The brand new version of TutShelf. Version “Two-Dot-Oh”. We’ve worked exceptionally hard on making it much superior than the last version. As you will have noticed we’ve completely revamped the design as well as the addition of a new staff member and a few other things. All of which will be revealed further on in this post.
Overview
So with the new Grand Scheme of things, what’s different?
For an obvious start we’ve totally redesigned and as said before the goal of the new design was to just simply look and feel more clean and usable/readable. Hopefully we’ve succeeded on that front! :) As well as that we’ve opened our post topic range to be a lot more diverse, especially with the addition of our wonderful new staff member, Cameron Harper (Or Cammy as he prefers) to our team, who will be introduced fully further down.
In some further detail we as a blog have decided to attempt to become a representing figure of young Web Designers & Developers, Graphic Artists, Photographers, Film Makers and anyone else who just loves tech and the internet! While our posts are certainly for all ages we are certainly proud to flaunt we’re under 18! ;)
Cammy Babes!
Aside from the slightly creepy title, I would like to introduce our new staff member – Cameron Harper. He has been a great addition to the team. Boasting skills in PHP/mySQL, Photography & Film Production. The former of which Steve & I lack any knowledge on beyond basics. He’s a really awesome chap so go follow him on Twitter, see his photography on Flickr and laugh at his afro on DailyBooth :D
New Design!
One of the most distinct features of TutShelf 2.0 is the completely new design. Redesigned from scratch by yours truly. I would go as far to say this is one of my best and most complete design yet, although over time I’ve become quite sick of it, But feedback has been more than excellent (kudos to Steve, Cammy, Olly, Calvin, Cody and Matt for their more than helpful comments!) the most favourite feature being the navigation menu. The code required for that is horrible but hopefully overtime I’ll make it way more semantic. I am after all a total jQuery noob at the moment but I’ll post a tutorial on it at some point perhaps :) Generally the whole sites code is horribly dirty because of me rushing to get it all done, I’ll clean it all up eventually I guess.
The other change to the design is the switch from a dark to light theme. It’s been proven that black on white is more readable than white on black unless of course your in the dark, so there’s a little nibble of usability info for you. And as much as I’d love to glorify it, the site has pretty much nothing else with a particular reason behind it other than “it looks pretty and works.”
Coming Soon!
So before I bid you adieu there are some upcoming features you can expect from TutShelf in the next few weeks and months:
- IE7-8 Compatibility. (Dear IE6, Please die. Love Alex :|)
- A Videos Page
- A User Link Feed
- Intense Debate Plugin Implemented
- Site Made iPhone/Mobile Browser Compatible
- Forums
- User Blogs & Portfolios (may or may not happen)
So as you can see we have quite a few things planned. We’ll probably add other unplanned things along the way too, but for now, that’s our game plan.
Thanks for stopping by, hope you enjoyed the post and we’ll see you again next time (hopefully) Bye! :D
