Hello, I’m Calvin. In this quick and easy tutorial I will take you through how to record an Electric (Or Acoustic) Guitar through Apple’s Garageband. The tutorial is aimed towards beginners and only shows the basics at the moment, however we may expand on this topic in later tutorials. Enjoy! :)

Step 1

Open a New Project in GarageBand and choose whichever guitar you are using (Electric or Acoustic). There are also numerous other instruments you can opt to record, but for this tutorial I will be using a guitar.

1

Step 2

Once the New Project is open, depending which you choose, some you get different options.

Electric Guitar:

2

(This of course isn’t the only amp, there are dozens of other amps and pedals to experiment with.)

Acoustic Guitar:

3

These options let you control how you want the guitar to sound.

(Eg: For the electric guitar, I want to choose Punk. You can make your own preset with the amps and the pedals you want! Your essentially using the computer as an amp.)

Here are some Pictures:

Step 3

So go start recording with guitar you chose (I would recommend that if you use Electric Guitar, use a cable, that way it comes out way clearer than a regular microphone recording.)

Acoustic Guitar is the simplest to use, as you can use a mic and tweak the settings to get the right volume and sound that goes with the song that you are playing.

Step 4

Repeat Step 3 as much as you like until you get a decent recording, it’s always a trial and error thing.

Step 5

I’d recommend you save all recordings even if they are really bad, cause you never know if they will come in handy at some point! ;)

Step 6 (optional)

Find drums and some bass for the song you’re playing, you could add some of Apple’s default drum loops (even though it probably won’t go really well.)

So, there we go, you just recorded your first guitar track ever! Hope you enjoyed the tutorial and found it useful and remember… keep rocking! ;D
